This is something I saw on someone else's blog and thought was really cool. I love having the quick access to the overview of the weather and having a link to more details. Really glad I chose this tech tip because it also helped me familiarize myself with how to work with the blog layout.

Wikipeida Trail: From Gambling to The Dual Sovereignty Doctrine
Gambling is the beginning of my wikipedia trail which I chose because of the Pandavas misfortune associated with gambling. Gambling the the wagering of money or something of value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the intent of winning money and/or material goods. Many popular games such as craps and baccarat originated in Europe and China.
Gambling Law is the set of rules and regulations that apply to the gambling industry. It is a collection of several areas of law and is enormously complex. In the US, illegal gambling is a federal crime if done as a business.
A Federal Crime is an act that is made illegal by U.S. federal legislation. Prosecution happens at both the federal and the state level based on the Dual Sovereignty doctrine.
The Dual Sovereignty Doctrine states that the government of the United States and of each State therein may each enact their own laws and prosecute crimes pursuant thereto, provided there is no prohibition by the constitution of the United States or of the state in question.

Week 9 Review: Modes of Thinking
I thought this was a really interesting graphic to show the different ways people commonly think. I have always been a very analytical thinker using logic and following patterns. I have worked to expand my way of thinking to occasionally try to approach problems from a more divergent method of thinking and it has led to creative concepts. Hopefully I will improve my ability to apply both divergent and convergent thinking in order to create diverse and creative ideas as an engineer.

Learning Challenge: Deskercise
I love this concept! I am a relatively active person so during my internships these last few years, being confined to a desk for 8 hours a day has not been easy. I had seen a similar article and post somewhere else and tried a few of the exercises out and it was great! It's so important to keep your body moving and I have found it helps me think more clearly to even just take a lap around the office. It isn't easy to stay active at work but these exercises are great to keep in mind!

Growth Mindset: Relaxing
I deciding to create this meme after learning how to with my tech tip this week because it's something I think is easily forgotten. I often get so caught up in school and work and bills that I don't let my body and mind have the proper rest they require. Sometimes I need to just take a break and come back to whatever I am doing with more energy.

The Pandavas are called to play another game of dice and
lose their kingdom and are exiled for thirteen years.
Krishna urged the Pandavas to fight back and declare war
against the Kauravas. Yudhishthir disagrees and tells Krishna that the time for
war is yet to come.
In the forest the Pandavas fight the rakshas Kirmira and
defeat him in battle reminding the Pandavas of their strength and power. Krishna
blesses the Pandavas and promises them his allegiance in war against the
Kauravas.
Yudhishtir asked Arjun to leave for the Himalayas to perform
austerities to please Shiva. Shiva disguised himself as a hunter and approached
Arjun. As he approached him a wild boar
appeared at attached Arjun. Arjun lifted the bow and brought him down. Shiva
has shot arrows and the same time and they fought about who killed it. Arjun
shattered the hunter’s crown and because of this the hunter knocked Arjun out. Arjun prayed to Shiva and then realized the hunter was Shiva. Shiva gave him the
bow and blessed him.
Urvashi confessed her love for Arjun and told him she wished
to marry him. Arjun treated her like his mother and respected her for being
superior to him. He asked for forgiveness and told her he couldn’t marry her. Urvashi
was angry and cursed Arjun that he would not desire any women.

Week 9 Story Planning: Hidden Treasure
Subhadra announced she was going to have Arjun’s baby named
Abhimanyu. Arjun told Subhadra how to escape chakravyuh and the baby learned
every word but because Subhadra fell asleep Arjun didn’t complete the story and
Abhimanyu didn’t hear the end of the story. I think this is a really
interesting concept that the baby absorbed all the information Arjun was
telling Subhadra even though Abhimanyu wasn’t born yet. This reminded me of
some things I’ve heard people do like playing certain types of music or reading
stories to unborn babies.
For my story I would like to use this concept but elaborate
a little further. I think it would be interesting to have Arjun tell step by
step instructions to the baby about where he has hidden treasure. Instead of
Subhadra falling asleep I want the baby to hear everything and then when she is
older to follow those instructions on a journey to the hidden treasure.
Plot Outline:
- Arjun is nervous because he is at war and decided to hide his fortune far away. His wife Subhadra is pregnant with Abhimanyu and Arjun speaks to her and the baby describing where the treasure is.
- Abhimanyu is born and remembers everything her father told her about the treasure
- When she grow up she sets out on a journey to find the treasure.
- She travels through the mountains, across the ganges and meets Shrek and Karna in the cave.
- She eventually finds the treasure and brings it back to her family.
Characters:
Arjun is a father who hides the treasure and explains how
his daughter can find it. He loves his family and is very protective of them.
Abhimanyu is the daughter of Arjun. She hears his story
before she is born and when she is old enough she sets out to find what Arjun
has left for her. She is strong warrior like her father and is able to complete
the journey.

Arjun and Subhardra after he kidnaps her. Balram was angered
by Arjun’s actions to kidnap her and ordered his army to destroy the Pandavas
but Krishna stopped him and convinced him not to by explaining their love for
each other.
Shishupal who insults Krishna and humiliates the pandavas
interrupts the crowing of Yudhishthir. Krishna slays Shishupal and crowns
Yudhishthir the king.
Duryodhan was embarrassed wanted revenge on the Pandavas. He
couldn’t fight them so instead he decided to challenge Yudhishthir to a game of
dice. He knew he wasn’t good and Shakuni was. Yudhishtir was suspicious but
agreed to the challenge. Yudhishtir lost all his wealth and possessions and
left with nothing.
After losing everything he wagered his brother Nakul, a
powerful warrior. Yudhishthir lost and Nakul was lost to the Kauravas. He kept
betting his brothers and losing. He was too obsessed to stop playing. He then put himself at stake and lost himself
to Shakuni.

Famous Last Words for Week 8
This week was just a reflection week so I did not do any new
writing this week. Although it wasn’t required, I decided to continue reading
or watching the next portion of the Mahabharata: Karmic Revolution. I got
through part D, which told the story of the Pandavas meeting and marrying
Draupadi. It then led into Arjun’s exile and began telling about his journey in
exile. I’m really glad I decided to watch the karmic revolution videos because
the visualization along with the story telling method has helped me really
understand what is happening in the story. I don’t know if it’s just because I
am hearing the story for the second time or if it is just told in a clearer
fashion but I definitely feel like I have picked up on some details I missed in
the original version. I plan to continue the series for my extra reading until
I finish it!
I was very relieved that this week was a reflection week. I
was beginning to get very nervous about the amount of work I had to get done
this week and additionally knowing that spring break would have an effect on my
motivation. Luckily every thing seems to be falling in place and I am just
about done with everything I need to get done. After this post I will be done
with all of week 8, which is the earliest I think I’ve ever finished a week.
While I still have a presentation tomorrow and two reports
due, I’m one step closer to finally being on spring break mode! I am going on a
cruise with a group of my friends and have been counting down to the trip for a
very long time! Hopefully I will come back from my trip relaxed and rejuvenated
to continue on the semester.
