Lindsey's Portfolio

To Learn to Fish - This story is based off the characters Sita and Rama from the Public Domain Edition of the Ramayana. At the beginning of my story, I rewrote the events that occurred in the Ramayana from the meeting of Rama and Sita until they were exiled to the forest from Sita’s point of view. Once they were exiled, I created the following story in which Sita is interested in learning to fish.

The Husband Trial - This story is a modern-day rewrite of the story of Sita's loyalty to Rama being tested with fire. In this version, Rama is being testing by Sita after returning from a business trip. His loyalty to Sita is tested by water.

The Beginning of Karna and Shrek - This story shares how young Karna, who was sent away in a river by his mother, finds his way to his new family, Shrek.

  1. I read the Husband Trial. I enjoyed that the roles were reversed this time. How Sita was testing Rama's faith instead of the other way around. It was interesting to see Rama as the bad guy here. He is very noble and kind in the original story so for him cheat on his wife is out of character for him. I liked how it seemed to be centered in a modern society but they still worshiped the same Gods as before. I really enjoyed how Sita was calm and collected through the entire process until she learns the truth. She does not accuse Rama of cheating, nor does she get angry when she finds the lipstick. She seems to hold the same characteristics as she does in the original story. I liked how a crowd of people came to watch and then they booed Rama for being a cheater. I would have liked more detail about why Rama cheated though. The two characters seem to love each other very much and it was confusing why he would do this. This enjoyed your representation of the story though, the differences from the original plot made your story entertaining to read.
