Learning Challenge: Deskercise

I love this concept! I am a relatively active person so during my internships these last few years, being confined to a desk for 8 hours a day has not been easy. I had seen a similar article and post somewhere else and tried a few of the exercises out and it was great! It's so important to keep your body moving and I have found it helps me think more clearly to even just take a lap around the office. It isn't easy to stay active at work but these exercises are great to keep in mind!

Learning Challenge: What To Focus On

I loved this meme. For me, it is sometimes soo easy to get caught up in things out of my control. I can get so anxious and stressed out and its takes valuable energy out of me. This picture is so simple yet makes such an important statement. While I will never be able to only spend my time on what I  can control and what matters, I think it's important to keep everything in perspective. If it's out of your control it's not worth the energy spent worrying. This is something I will keep in the back of my mind when I begin to feel stressed out.

Learning Challenge: Self Motivation

I am a very active user of positive self talk. I've always wondered if people speak to themselves in their head as much as I do. I constantly hear my thoughts spoken out loud in my head and have used this as a way to motivate myself. When I'm running and start to feel weak or start to slow down, I tell myself that I am good enough and I can keep going and it has a tremendous effect on my performance. I think it's extremely important to believe in yourself because if you don't nobody will. I find that reminding myself that I can be successful at whatever I put my mind to has a strong impact on my motivation and quality of work.

Learning Challenge: Cinderella's Advice

Unfortunately I had to learn this lesson the hard way this week. While I’m not a procrastinator, I was trying so hard to get every assignment I needed to turn in before my exam completed before I started studying. This took more time than I had anticipated which led to less time spent studying. While I don’t think my method is necessarily wrong, I think I should have put more hours in and started further ahead of time. It’s my fourth year of college and just when I think I have it all figured out I get in another situation like this. College is a continually learning experience.

Learning Challenge: Work for What You Love

I really love this meme because it put into perspective where we should be focusing our energy. I often get swept away in the fast pace environment of college and find myself getting stressed out. I have recently tried to step back and identify my passions and one of them requires that I complete my college degree. While I am not necessarily passionate about school, I think it’s important to step back and realize the big picture and why I am doing what I am.

Learning Challenge: Letting Go

I really love the quote in the meme below. This is something I have really tried to work on over the past year. There are so many things that happen in this world without warning or a reason and I think it’s really important to be able to let things go. Holding on to something that couldn’t have been prevented or even if it could and wasn’t will take energy away from your daily life. To me this energy is better spent working on things in your control and appreciating the good things that happen. It’s not always easy to just let something go but once you do it can be a great relief.

Learning Challenge: Reviewing my Schedule

While I really enjoy this class, one of the major benefits is the ability to finish early. I am currently taking my senior capstone and as we get further through the semester the number of hours per week that I need to spend on it will be overwhelming. So, I have planned in my schedule to do all of the extra credit assignments that I can. I originally thought I would be able to spend large hunks of time a few days of week but have found the quality of my work is better when I just do 1-2 hours each day. This was the schedule I kept this week and I think it went really well. I’m not quite done but getting close!

Learning Challenge: Running toward Happiness

It's relatively well known that exercising is not only good for your physical health but also your mental health. As Elle Woods said it best, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy." I was a runner throughout high school and quit cold turkey when I began college. Getting back into a habit of exercising is extremely hard after taking a long break from it but this last year I set a few goals for myself which included running a half marathon. To achieve this I have been running or working out nearly 6 days a week and while I'm a little more exhausted than usual, I always feel so much happier and healthier after every workout. Outside of training, I also love to run as a stress reliever. While many people think that's crazy and there's no way stressing out your body during a run can reduce mental stress but it really does!
