Famous Last Words for Week 3

This week I really felt like I had a better grip on my schedule and new routine. While I didn’t get very much done for this class ahead of time, I was still able to complete everything on time and with out very much stress. Progress from the first few weeks! Although while I had a much better grasp on my schoolwork, I let my running schedule slip through the cracks a little bit. I am training for a half-marathon in April so missing a run here and there wont kill me but I’d like to work my running schedule into my daily routine. Forcing myself to exercise every day can be exhausting but at the same time refreshing and usually boosts my mood.

This week I was a little bit more stumped about writing than usual so I chose to do the story planning method. It was really helpful to have my ideas in writing as it led to me coming up with more and more ideas as I went. I began writing my plan a little bit unsure of where the story would lead but after completing my planning I think I have a pretty good idea and storyline shaped out for next week.

I am currently also in a leadership and management course and have found many themes and concepts aligning with the material in the growth mindset and learning challenges for this class. I have never had a class that puts any focus into that kind of material and I have absolutely loved learning about it. I feel like in even just these first three weeks I’ve learned a lot about myself and how I learn and the different ways some other people learn which I feel I will be able to strongly utilize when I get out to the working world as well as in my group projects for school.

Week 3 Review: The Sphinx

As I scrolled past this picture of a statue I knew exactly where it was but no clue what it was. I have walked past this statue so many time and wondered what the meaning behind it was so I really enjoyed seeing this announcement regarding Botero’s Sphinx and I can’t believe that it weights 3000 pounds!!

Wikipedia Trail: From Rakshasa to Reincarnation

I began my Wikipedia trail with Rakshasa because of their involvement in the Ramayana. I learned they are actually found throughout Hindu mythology and was incorporated into Buddhism. I then clicked on Buddhism, a religion and dharma largely based on the teachings of Buddha. Karma is a key concept in Buddhism and the next page I traveled to. Karma is the belief that the intent and actions of an individual will influence their future. Karma is closely associated with the idea of reincarnation, my next page. Reincarnation is a philosophical or religious concept that a living being starts a new life in a different body or form after each time they die.

Learning Challenge: Reviewing my Schedule

While I really enjoy this class, one of the major benefits is the ability to finish early. I am currently taking my senior capstone and as we get further through the semester the number of hours per week that I need to spend on it will be overwhelming. So, I have planned in my schedule to do all of the extra credit assignments that I can. I originally thought I would be able to spend large hunks of time a few days of week but have found the quality of my work is better when I just do 1-2 hours each day. This was the schedule I kept this week and I think it went really well. I’m not quite done but getting close!

Growth Mindset: Thinking is Doing

I loved this meme because of its recognition of thinking being part of a process. I have a very analytical personality and often spend more time thinking about things before I take action that most people. People often associate a lack of action with laziness but I think it’s important to acknowledge that thinking things through is not a bad thing!
