Sugriva, the monkey king, sent his monkey troops out to
search for Sita. A vulture that told him that Sita was across the sea in the
demon-king’s garden spoke to hanuman. Hanuman planned to use his monkey magic
powers to leap or fly across the sea. A serpent approaches him but uses his
magic to change size and the serpents says he was sent by the Gods and Hanuman
past the test and is allowed to go forth.
Nala and Nila were magical engineers. When Rama and the
troops approached the ocean, the Ocean advised him to have Nala and Nila
construct a bridge over the water. The bears and monkeys brought the materials
and Nala and Nila constructed the bridge and they were able to cross over.

Rama orders Lakshman to build up a pile so that Sita’s
loyalty is tested. If she has remained loyal to Rama, flame will not hurt one
lock of her head but if she wandered she cannot stand the test of fire. Sita
passed the test but Rama still sends her into exile. In exile Sita gives birth
to Rama’s twins and Valmiki raises them.
