I began my Wikipedia trail with Rama, the seventh avatar of
the Hindu God Vishnu and the main character in The Ramayana. In some parts of
India, Rama’s return to Ayodhya and his coronation is the main reason for
celebrating Diwali. Diwali is a Hindu Festival of lights celebrated every year
in autumn. It is a festival of sounds and sights with fireworks and rangoli
designs. Rangoli is a form of art in which patterns are created on the floor in
living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour,
colored sand or flower petals. The base material can have sindoor or other
natural colors added to it. Sindoor is a red or orange-red colored cosmetic
powder from India usually worn by married women along the parting of their
hair. The main component is usually turmeric.
